Nearly half a billion people are trapped in chronic poverty – poverty they experience over many years, often over their entire lives, and commonly pass poverty on to their children. - chronicpoverty.org If mothers are given an opportunity to lift themselves out of poverty, the likelihood of passing it on to their own children greatly diminishes. This week, as we celebrate Mothers in Australia, we thought we would share some of the inspiring projects we are involved with which try to address some of the issues faced by women and mothers around the world. Take A Walk In My Shoes, a project by COFA design student Visala Wong as part of our Hands That Shape mentor program addresses the issue of chronic poverty in rural China. Handmade by Chinese artisans and adapting the technique and aesthetic of a very simple product, these hand-woven straw shoes turn an ordinary product into an extraordinary opportunity. handsthatshape/handupmentoring/take-a-walk-in-my-shoes-visala-wong/
