Needing some SERIOUS HELP finding a document on the web... Something I saw about a year or two ago but apparently neglected to bookmark or save (Ive figuratively torn my hard drive apart looking for it over the past year!) It was a paper on evolution... Not explaining evolution, but demonstrating how evolution is one of the most successful theories ever proposed, by definition of all of the evidence which points in its favor. The paper began with an analogy of an old tree in a city courtyard, with speculation that the tree was of a certain age. Evidence to that was a plaque erected near the tree stating its age. But pointing out that the plaque alone might be inaccurate or misleading. So if you found an old dated newspaper with a photo of the courtyard with the tree, that would bolster confidence of the trees age. The more evidence from different sources, the more confidence in the trees age. The paper then explained the idea of how evolution leads to the philogenic tree. And that you can build the structure of this tree from the fossil record. You can also build this tree from studying the genes of different species, and you get the same tree! And if you look at embryonic development, you get the same diagram again. It went on to make its point that all of these completely different disciplines lead to the same structure, giving great evidence that evolution does indeed reflect what is really going on in nature. I remember there was something unusual about the file format of the presentation, in that it wasnt a web page but might have been a powerpoint document, or a PDF, or a PDF of a powerpoint document. I think it was from a college... something with a dot-edu domain on the URL. Ive searched and searched and Ive come up with a lot of similar documents, but I cannot find the one with that memorable tree analogy or that so eloquently made the point of evidence from different disciplines. Does anyone know the document/web page Im talking about? Breetah? Maven?
