Neo on target for Spring Classic Day at Hastings A strong win at the recent Cambridge trials has former Wellington Guineas winner Neo on target for a his tilt at the Gr. 3 Tumu ITM Spring Sprint (1400m) on Spring Classic Day at Hastings in October, the last day of the Hawkes Bay Triple Crown series. The four-year old gelding hasn’t been seen since a disappointing performance at Awapuni in June but co-trainer Andrew Forsman is happy with his condition as he prepares for a return to the racetrack. “He is coming up nicely after a short winter break and he pleased us with his win at the trials,” said Forsman. “He will need a run before the race at Hastings so we will most likely go to Pukekohe this weekend for the rating 85 1200 metre they have on their programme. “In the long term we are keen to get as much black type as we can with him to assist his owners who are keen to continue breeding from his dam who they also own.” Forsman also reported that stable star It’s A Dundeel had made good progress from his first-up run in Melbourne and was ready for his next race which will be the Gr. 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield this weekend. “We were really pleased with his first run as we hadn’t been able to get as much work into him as we would have liked due to the wet tracks here,” he said. “He looks to have come on well since then and while he is still on the way up he will strip a much fitter horse this weekend.” The Baker/Forsman stable will also have star three-year-old filly Orbity in action on the weekend where she will look to extend her winning streak to six in the Gr. 3 Hawke’s Bay Breeders Gold Trail Stakes (1200m) at Hastings. - NZTR
