Never, ever, ever abandon an animal. They suffer terribly on their own. They have no protection from the elements. They may get pneumonia. They may burn the pads on their feet. They get bitten by fleas and drained of precious blood by ticks. They may become so anemic that their heart stops beating. They can be attacked by coyotes. They may be hit by a car. They go hungry. They become dehydrated. Saving them after they have been abandoned is expensive. It can be hard on the hearts of those who try to save them. Burying an animal is a very hard thing to do. If you or someone you know cant keep your pet, please bring them to the shelter (7 days a week from 10:00 -5:00). Or try to find them a home yourself. Abandoning an animal is a FELONY in Virginia. In memory of sweet little Mattie (who was abandoned). She was loved so much if only for a short time.
