Never give up an opportunity to be honest and vulnerable with your children. I have the most amazing conversations with my own. Some folks have said I am far too open with my children, but I think shushing children, and demanding respect you don’t deserve is the old way that stopped working a long time ago. You can’t beat respect out of others, or tell them “because I said so” and expect them not to want to rebel. Vulnerability is where it’s at. Pride will tell you otherwise, but I’ve never been one to let pride get in the way of loving people; especially my babies. Build bridges, not walls.
