Poland became a member of the UN Commission on Science and Technology for Development Following the elections at the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), Poland, together with Bulgaria and Hungary, took the seats for the Eastern European Group. Poland will serve a four-year term in the Commission, beginning January 1st, 2015. The Commission is a subsidiary body of the ECOSOC, providing the General Assembly and ECOSOC with high-level advice on relevant science and technology issues. The Commission is composed of 43 members, meets on an annual basis and reports to the Council. The Commission acts as a forum for the examination of science and technology questions and their implications for development; the advancement of understanding on science and technology policies, particularly in respect of developing countries and; the formulation of recommendations and guidelines on science and technology matters within the United Nations system.k
