New science showing pets protect kids from developing asthma supports the nagging suspicion that we may be too clean for our own good, according to the American Lung Association. Previous findings indicate that living with two cats in the first months of life helps fend off asthma and allergies later on. Newer research from the National Institute of Health extends this beneath to having one dog and for the first time, identifies protective bacteria the body produces when exposed to dust in homes with dogs, raising hope for future therapies or even prevention.
