News 12 Exotic birds found at Army Surplus store December 10, 2014 HUNTINGTON - About 100 rare and very expensive birds are being pulled out of a Huntington Army Surplus store. The owner of the 60-year-old building, which is located on Jericho Turnpike, somehow lost possession and is now being evicted. Police say there are multiple animals at-risk inside the building. Gerald Mosca, of Huntington Animal Control, says there are about 20 cats and one dog, in addition to the birds. He says that he and his team have not yet examined the entire scope of the property, however. The Suffolk County SPCA is currently performing an investigation, and will then determine the fate of the animals that were found. News 12 Long Island has learned that the owner of the property has rented a U-Haul to transport her personal belongings. She says she will be moving upstate with her sister.
