News & EventsBack to news & events listingPrint 28 June 2014 Top Award Goes To Devon Air Cadet Tags: Dacre Sword Topic: News Region: South West A Honiton Air Cadet has been awarded the prestigious “Dacre Sword” for being the best male Air Cadet in the country. Nineteen year old Cadet Warrant Officer Jake Rosen is a former pupil of Kings School, Ottery St Mary and joined 1064 (Honiton) Squadron six years ago. The Dacre Sword was the dress sword of former RAF Air Commodore G B Dacre and was presented by his wife to the Air Training Corps in 1979. Dacre 1 edited Jake has an extensive list of achievements including the completion of both flying and gliding scholarships in 2013. He has attended numerous camps at RAF stations in the UK and abroad. This year he will be visiting Israel as part of the International Air Cadet Exchange scheme. Jake has participated fully in a range of sports and adventure training activities including canoeing, kayaking and surfing. He also achieved his Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in 2012 having taken part in an expedition to the Black Mountains of Wales. Music plays a large part in Jake’s air cadet career. He is a founder member and former Drum Major of the Devon & Somerset Wing ATC Band. Jake said “I have had a fantastic time as an air cadet; so many opportunities have been provided. As an instructor cadet I have been able to give something back to the younger Cadets at the squadron. Jake is due to leave the Air Cadets later this year and hopes to pursue a career in marine engineering. Squadron Leader Dave Rolfe, Devon & Somerset Wing Media Officer said “CWO Rosen is an excellent ambassador for the Air Cadet Organisation; he is a credit to himself, and his Squadron. CWO Jake Rosen will receive the Dacre Sword at an award ceremony due to be held later this year
