Newspapers Review: Army Killing of Youth Focus of Dailies RAMALLAH, August 21, 2013 (WAFA) – The Israeli army killing of a young Palestinian in Jenin during a raid of Jenin refugee camp was the main story in two of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies on Wednesday. Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida described the killing as an Israeli escalation. Al-Quds also reported on this story and it, along with the other two dailies, also reported on other Israeli measures in the occupied territories including the destruction of dwellings in the Jordan Valley, the demolition of a room in and razing of land in Silwan neighborhood of East Jerusalem and the shooting and injuring of Palestinians in Gaza. Al-Quds led its front page story with the peace process highlighting information from a secret Palestinian-Israeli meeting that was supposed to have been held on Tuesday in Jerusalem with an unnamed Palestinian official expressing disappointment that US peace envoy Martin Indyk did not attend the meeting under pressure from Israel. The paper highlighted statements by the Israeli negotiator Tzipi Livni that Israel will take dramatic steps to reach a final peace settlement with the Palestinians that would end the conflict. It also printed an article quoting Minister of Finance Shukri Bishara denying saying that the Palestinian Authority (PA) was facing difficult financial situation. He said he did not make any statements to the press to that effect. The paper highlighted statements by Hamas official Mousa Abu Marzouk denying that Hamas said no to election, but that it wants to deal with all the issues in one package. Al-Ayyam said Hamas refused to allow the PA to overlook the Rafah crossing with Egypt. It also said in another story quoting analysts saying that Hamas wants to remedy its relations with Iran and Hezbollah to make up for the lost support from Egypt.
