Nice. ANCIRs data mining and data analysis project, GranoProject.org, has just been cited as an important contributor to Africas open data movement. Grano is being built for ANCIR by Code For Africa fellow Friedrich Lindenberg, to help investigative newsrooms track the often hidden relationships between politicians, organised crime, business, government, and the financial sector. It uses social network analysis (SNA), data visualisation, entity extraction, and good old fashioned investigative research. The project is funded via a grant from the African News Innovation Challenge, with additional support from the International Center for Journalists. Read an interview with Friedrich about why this matters.
