Nicky is in recovery. At first he was crying in pain, but they gave him a little pain medication and hes been sleeping. Vitals are good. We have to stay until 9. The good news is the cath showed no pulmonary hypertension and the pressures in his heart are good. The shunt (blood going from his left side of the heart to the right side due to the two holes in his heart) is at 1.7. They do surgery when the number is 2 or more and they definitely dont do surgery when its 1.5 or less, so of course hes in a grey area. His surgeon does not think his vsd will close on its own and recommends surgery. We could wait, but I dont want to do two separate surgeries. Id rather fix both problems at once. We also found out he doesnt have a true vascular ring, but an artery is in the wrong place (which is causing compression on his esophagus), so his surgeon has to move the artery to put it in the right spot. He is going to have open heart surgery to fix the artery pressing against his esophagus and the holes in his heart. His surgeon thinks we should do the stent in his kidney first. So instead of having surgery next Monday, we will be pushing it back. Not sure when yet. Thanks for all the prayers and good thoughts!!! We appreciate it so much.
