Nigeria Sports FIFA likely to ban Nigeria,NFF president arrested and released by the SSS inShare Chris Maduewesi Senior Member World football governing body FIFA could ban Nigeria after it emerged on Thursday that a Federal High Court has sacked the entire board of the Nigeria Football Federation(NFF) A court ruling in Jos nullified the powers of the executive board of the NFF,mandating the Sport minister Tamuno Danagago to appoint a new principal officer for the football body. This is not the first time that Nigeria will be facing the threat of being banned. After an abysmal campaign at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa,President Goodluck Jonathan opted to pull out the national team from international competitions for two years in order to arrest the declining fortunes of the game in the country. However after much entreaties from Nigerians, and FIFA threatening to wield the stick on the country the decision was rescinded. But the latest episode unfolding, means that Nigeria is towing that line again as FIFA has always frowned at governments interference in the administration of the game in each member nation.. Ebiakpo Rumson Baribote (Plaintiff) through her Counsel, S D Ekara, filed a suit against the NFF asking the court to grant an Order of Interim Injunction restraining the second defendant, (Alhaji Aminu Miagari) and all the Committee and congress of the first defendant (the Nigeria Football Federation) from further controlling, commanding or managing the Affairs of the first Defendant and all Football matters in Nigeria. The sports minister as was mandated by the court, appointed Lawrence Longyir Katken as Acting Secretary General of the NFF. Special assistant to the sports minister on media,Patrick Omorodion noted that the appointment was a temporary one pending the outcome of the court case. The NFF is involved in a court case and this is a temporary appointment pending a court hearing, Omorodion told BBC Sport. It is understood that the NFF president Aminu Maigari was arrested by men of the the State Security Service(SSS) on his arrival in Abuja from theb Brazil, but was later released. No reason could be immediately ascertained as to the cause for his arrest, whether it is in connection with the court ruling or not.
