No Leadership in Reno or Northern Nevada With Real Vision. I - TopicsExpress

No Leadership in Reno or Northern Nevada With Real Vision. I attended a great evening onThursday at the Reno Collective Reno The Next Silicon Valley? https://facebook/events/409866662449962/ Basically its a discussion on what needs to be done to make Reno a more attractive place for new tech companies and what are the key factors for this to happen. This is so typical for Reno it all good stuff however words are cheap and actions are harder. However its heart seem to be in the right place. We were broken up into small groups of about 5 to 7 people and one of the things we had to identify were who were the real local leaders who we could work with on a a vision for this area? I wont name, names however in my group had some very well known people in the local business community and we started to looking at one other and there was silence. I broke the ice well that one of the key problems, is it not, for this area there no real leadership? I thought I was going to get some heart for saying the obvious. However, they looked at me and said jointly no youre completely correct! See this is a major problem i.e. there is no leadership that has real power in this area with vision. Those who do have power politically or economically are mostly old and or have a mind-set of twenty years out of date. However, Im going to name four people who I feel have shown some promise connected to local leadership in 2013. 1) Doug Erwin: of EDAWN: The guy has worked his ass off trying to make a difference in 2013, yes this is his job. However I feel he is totally committed to making a difference. 2) Abbi Whitaker: owner of the Abbi Agency: It the same gig as Doug, yes she runs a local PR company so she would make a load of noise however I feel she personally committed to seeing change for the better in this area and she made a difference in how Reno is scene by the outside world. 3) Colin Loretz: of the Reno Collective who personally has done so much for Reno. 4) Dusty Wunderlich: principal at DCA Partners a really smart guy who is the type of person this area need to become a real community leader.
