Here is a message from the Emergency Management Agency. ROADS & BRIDGES UPDATE The Baldwin County Highway Department has reported a significant amount of ice accumulation on bridges and roadways in Baldwin County. The Highway Department has placed sand on many bridges and roadways, but warns motorists to use extreme caution. If it is not necessary for residents to travel on the roadways they are encouraged to stay safely at home. Sleet, freezing rain and snow have made driving conditions extremely hazardous. Be aware that bridges and overpasses typically freeze more quickly than other surfaces. Motorists are again advised to use extreme caution. If you must drive on the roadways throughout the day today please be cautious and heed the following safe winter weather driving tips (provided by weather): Decrease your speed and leave yourself plenty of room to stop. Brake gently to avoid skidding. If your wheels start to lock up, ease off the brake. Turn your lights on for increased visibility. Don’t use cruise control or overdrive on ice roads. Baldwin County Emergency Management Agency, Baldwin County Sheriff’s Department and the Baldwin County Highway Department will continue to monitor the winter weather situation. In the event further action is needed an immediate notification will be given.
