No need to panic but be aware. Tsunami watch in effect From the A.M. Costa Rica staff Two major earthquakes took place between 5:46 and 5:58 p.m. today in the Pacific northwest of Iquique, Chile. The U.S. Tsunami Center has declared a watch for Costa Rica. The estimated time of arrival of any wave generated by the twin quakes is estimated to be from 10:41 p.m. to midnight along the Costa Rican Pacific coast. The wave was estimated to be more than 2.11 meters or nearly 7 feet near the epicenter. A more serious tsunami warning is in effect for countries to the south. Some evacuations are taking place in Chile and Peru.Costa Rican officials are on alert. Expats in Pacific coastal areas should stay in contact with local emergency worked for updates.
