Nobody can understand my angst this evening. I am a 67 year old - TopicsExpress

Nobody can understand my angst this evening. I am a 67 year old Bermudian woman (single at the time) who parents sacrificed to send me abroad to get educated so that I could return to Bermuda and take my rightful place in the work place. My father worked day and night to make this happen. However, when I returned to Bermuda, fully qualified, I was never able to find work suitable to my qualifications. I was never good enough, or qualified enough, or, in many instances white enough. I remember applying for a job at Bermuda Forwarders as a secretary - now administrative assistant. The person who got the job ahead of me was the a non-Bermudian, wife of a non-Bermudian police officer. Once she started to work, they realised that she could not even type. But they kept her on and I remained out of work. Thats just one example of many. I also recall my youngest, return to Bermuda with a Bachelors degree. His first job was as a pot washer at night at the Dinghy Club. There are so many other examples that I could refer to. But the fact of the matter is that everyone of those 1455 PRC holders are gainfully employed, and many who are like me over the age of 65, are happily retired with a nice pension. Not so with me. Am I irritated? For sure!! And listening to Larry Scott going along with Michael Fahy and Sylvan Richards is irritating me more.
