Nolley, George E. George E. NolleyGeorge E. Nolley, Ed.D., 73, of Lynchburg, Va., died on Thursday, October 16, 2014. He was the son of the late George M. and Frances Ward Nolley of Mullens, W.Va. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Marion Nolley, also of Mullens, W.Va.George received his bachelors of science from Concord College in Athens, W.Va..; his masters degree from Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va.; and his doctorate in education from the University of Virginia. He began his teaching career in West Virginia and continued it in Roanoke County, Va. He began his administrative career in Henry County, Va., serving as principal at Mary Hunter School in Bassett, Va. and then principal at J. D. Bassett High School. After completing his doctorate, he served as Associate Superintendent for Instruction in Montgomery County, Va. and finally served for 30 years as Superintendent of Schools for Campbell County, Va.After his retirement from Campbell County, he continued his service to the youth and teachers of Virginia by supervising and mentoring student teachers throughout Central and Southwest Virginia. He ended his career as he began it, enjoying the sharing of knowledge and life experiences with children and teachers starting their own careers in education. He was a member of Rustburg United Methodist Church. George was known for his dry wit, love of UVa sports, unfailing support of Boy Scouts, support of the educational and career pursuits of his sons and glowing pride for his grandchildren. In the past few years, you would never find George without his faithful sidekick, Hoo (thats WaHoo for all you Tech fans!)He is survived by his loving children, George W. Nolley and his wife, Sharon of Rustburg, Va., J.Todd Nolley and his wife, Rebecca of Atlanta, Ga.; his grandchildren, Sydney and Ryan Nolley of Rustburg; four siblings, Mary Frances Panky Nolley Taylor of St. Albans, W.Va., Robert Nolley and his wife, Sandi of Alderson, W.Va., John Nolley and his wife, Sandy of Mullens, W.Va., and Martha Nolley Taylor and her husband, E.C. of Rice, Va.; numerous nieces and nephews; and Mae Shumate Nolley of Lynchburg.The family wishes to express their heart-felt appreciation to the staff of the Centra Health System and, in particular, the Hospice House for all of their loving and supportive care. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 2, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Rustburg High School. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made In memory of George E.
