Northside NAIDOC begins with Welcome to Country with Uncle Alex Davidson recognising the different nations represented here today and gives a warm friendly welcome on behalf of the Turrbul people. With this years theme of remembering service of 100 years and beyond by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, Linda Yuke shared her familys extensive service to Australia. She also reminded us that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders served this anion a despite not being regarded as citizens and were denied involvement with the RSL when they returned - some of whom were sent back to the missions. So despite standing shoulder to shoulder with other Australians, back home many were not granted the same equality. Now the Torres Strait Islander dancers begin the music and dance.
