A sub-tropical low is moving towards northern New Zealand, with rain spreading south over northern New Zealand today. The heaviest falls are expected about eastern parts of Northland and also the Coromandel Range, where 100mm of rain could fall from Thursday evening through to Friday evening. People are advised that streams and rivers may rise rapidly, and surface flooding and slips are possible. HEAVY RAIN WARNING AREA/S AFFECTED Eastern Northland from Kaeo to Whangarei FORECAST Rain is expected to become persistent this evening, with bursts of heavy rain continuing through to Friday evening. In the 24 hours between 6pm Thursday and 6pm Friday, 100mm of rain could accumulate in a few places, especially about the hills. AREA/S AFFECTED Coromandel Range FORECAST Rain is expected to become persistent tonight, with heavy falls continuing through Friday and into Saturday morning.
