Notes for the fantasy books. Ghost of Gates- Near the end of the quest to join Neffer’s body to her spirit avatar, the party is met by the “Ghost of Gates”, who tries half-heartedly to frighten the party away. Ghosts, though very rare, are the result of the same kind of body/spirit separation punishments as Neffer. The difference is, Neffer’s shell body is a species that is surprisingly hardy, despite appearances, and can go without food, water, and other necessities and comforts over long periods. A ghost appears as large as or larger than its original corporeal form. The fraction of life energies tstranded back in the shell body are relinquished to the spirit avatar and the parts coalesce into a phantom, neither alive nor fully dead. The unique energy signature of such a monster is a delicacy to even rarer creatures - corporeal but invisible swarms of insect-like creatures that feed on ghosts’ energy fields in swarms, causing a ruckus as they feed, knocking things about and scraping their invisible chitin scales across the environment. Their draining procedure is slow and meticulous and torture to a phantom. Often, the undead prey will howl and scream. As the form of the ghost is warped and drained, its appearance and noise give the world at large the very portrait of a specter.
