Noteworthy badass. Aside from being the first journalist to ever participate in a combat jump (with the 173rd), this French photo journalist who documented some of the most heart wrenching photos of the Vietnam war also played an inadvertently large part in the development in the M-16 by documenting the tragic consequences of the rushed implementation of the M-16 without sufficient testing and controls. From The 5.56mm Timeline: A Chronology of Development The May 13, 1967 issue of Paris Match published Catherine Leroys photos of dead US Marines with field stripped (or otherwise hors de combat) M16A1 rifles. The photos were taken during the battles for Hills 861 and 881 (North and South) near Khe Sanh.
