Now, residents in Hubli-Dharwad need not to worry about increasing piles of garbage and uncleaned gutters in their areas. Reason: the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation will henceforth keep a tab on zonal officers, who are assigned the responsibility of keeping the city clean. To inspect their works by a third party, HDMC has appointed 12 senior officers of various departments to assess the ground reality by visiting each zone between 6 am and 9 am. HDMC authorities woke up when residents complained at the HDMC helpline about increasing problems of stray dogs due to the presence of heaps of garbage and uncleaned gutters in their wards. When it was verified, the authorities found that zonal officers were not seriously doing their work to keep the city clean, said an officer, HDMC, who did not wish to be named.
