Now that the whirlwind that was this week is coming to a stand - TopicsExpress

Now that the whirlwind that was this week is coming to a stand still, I finally have time to stop and process everything. This past Monday I participated in one of the most RE-warding experiences as a writer during my time here in NYC, and I was also A-warded for my work as an actor. What more can an artist really ask for? I had to spread myself thin between both events, but boy was the exhaustion worth it. Six black male playwrights (including myself) were selected by The New black Fest to write monologues about our experiences with racism here in America at a platform called HANDS UP at The Segal Theater. There was soooo much power and promise in that room, and I cannot WAIT for the future of this project. During HANDS UP, I learned that I also won BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR at AUDELCO Awards (the most prestigious award ceremony for Black Theater...the Black Tonys) for my role as CASE in MAIDSS DOOR at the Billie Holiday Theater. Immediately upon the closing of one event, I had to hail a cab and hot foot it to Symphony Space. Once I got there, it was announced that MAIDS DOOR had won Best Dramatic Production...making it a sweep in every category we were nominated in. I can only used three words to describe this week...BLESSED and HIGHLY FAVORED!!! When I think back to where I come from, and all Ive been through along the way...all I can do is raise my hands and thank God.
