Now, yesterday I posted the Rohirrims initial charge at the Battle of Pelennor Fields in The Return Of The King. Well this is after that, when the Mumakil (thats giant elephants, for those who dont know) arrive, led by the Haradrim, or Southrons as they are also known. Let this sink into your mind: this was made 11 years ago! And it still looks astonishing! The Mumakil still look like they could have been made yesterday, not like some old CGI creatures that dont stand up well today. These guys still hold up! And truth is, this is probably as epic as cinema has ever been; I dont remember having ever seen a more epic scene or battle in film history. Forget Avatar, forget The Avengers, forget Man Of Steel and all other more recent CGI-fests weve been given - this is still the bar for future battle sequences. And plus, this contains the extended footage of Éowyn and Merry kicking butt! I especially like Éowyn getting all medieval on Gothmogs butt!
