Nuclear Power: Bangladesh is Ready to Face The Challenge Farid Hossain In its bid to increase electricity generation Bangladesh is also opting for nuclear power. Power-starved Bangladesh has already made some progress in fulfilling its dream of establishing its first-ever nuclear plant at Rooppur in Pabna district. The help and assistance are coming from Russia, a trusted friend of Bangladesh since Dhaka’s successful independence war in 1971. Dhaka and Moscow have signed several deals and Memorandum of Understandings for establishment of the plants. Under the deals Moscow will build the plant, supply two nuclear reactors each having capacity of generating 1,000 MW of electricity, train Bangladeshi manpower in operating the plant and safe disposal of the nuclear waste. If the plant becomes a reality Bangladesh will be able to add 2,000 MW of electricity to the national grid in a major leap in meeting its effort at easing the power crisis. ep-bd/site/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=5:4&catid=1:latest-news
