O give thanks to the Lord, call on his name, make known his deeds among the peoples. - Psalm 105:1 (NRSV) Todays Devotional Some years ago, when our son was suffering from depression, our family slipped into a dark place. It was difficult to see the light, helpfulness, and generosity of others. We were seeking God, but our situation did not seem to be getting better. During one family counseling session, however, the counselor asked us to begin listing our blessings, to evaluate the good things in our lives. We noted the blessings of our faith, the kindnesses others had shown to us, and the fact that our family was still whole and intact. In time, a spirit of thanksgiving returned. We discovered new ways to talk with each other and also found that God was near. Being thankful can transform us. As the psalmist noted centuries ago, when we are thankful, we are proclaiming God’s works — and others can also remember what the Lord has done for them.
