OECD has just released the 2014 edition of Education at a Glance: - TopicsExpress

OECD has just released the 2014 edition of Education at a Glance: OECD Indicators, which includes new data on private education such as the proportion of public and private investment in education and the ways public and private schools/institutions differ. According to the report, the performance advantage of private schools compared with public schools is no longer observed in most countries/economies when the socio-economic status of students and schools are taken into account. After accounting for the socio-economic status of students and schools, private schools outperform public schools in only 8 countries and economies, and public schools outperform private schools in 12 countries and economies. Thus, private schools – and public schools with students from socio-economically advantaged backgrounds – benefit the individual students who attend them; but there is no evidence to suggest that private schools help to raise the level of performance of the school system as a whole. - Privatisation in Education Research Initiative, Global Initiative for Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, Global Campaign for Education
