OK - found it buried in my log.. Here is my list of 20 Top 10 Favorite SONG of all time. Yes, there are 47 of them. Title Artist Comment 39 Queen I saw this performed live in the 1980s. On the album, the song is sung by Brian May. In concert, Freddie sang it as part of their accoustic set. Always Saturday Guadalcanal Diary I fell in love with this song when I lived my lonely life is Southeastern Pennsylvania. Saturday was the day I would drive down to 2oth Century Sound and buy my weeks stash of new CDs. I always bought this bands output on sight and this was an added bonus when I bought the album for their cover of a Beatles song - And Your Bird can Sing that I heard on the radio show Breakfast With the Beatles. Anything But Mine Kenny Chesney Another song with a video I enjoy. I like songs I can sing along to. This love song brings out the strength of a young love that has to end. Arthurs Theme (Best That You Can Do) Christopher Cross Another song from a movie. Ce and I saw Christopher Cross in concert here in Reno many years later. One of my old friends from Burroughs days, Steve DAmore knew Mr. Cross if I remember correctly. Baby, The Rain Must Fall Glenn Yarbrough I heard this song on the radio and liked it. So I got the LP from RCA Record Club as a reward for getting my mother to join in one school fund-raiser. Remember record clubs? Breakfast at Tiffanys Deep Blue Something I went through a phase when I listened to Alternative Music in the car. I heard this and did not know the name of the band. So I asked a worker at Best Buy and he knew it was Deep Blue Something. Of course I bought the CD there and then. Capital Shame The Tarney / Spencer Band This is a pop song with a great hook. I doubt many people have even heard of the band, let alone, this song. I digitized this song from a vinyl promo copy of the LP I own. What a great song it is that few have ever heard. Catch the Wind (Original Version) Donovan This is quite the love song. Be sure to find the original version of this as he re-recorded it later. Both versions are good, this one is the best. Crazy for You Madonna My favorite Madonna song - and I like a lot of her older stuff. This is from the movie Vision Quest. Dialoge (Part I & II) (Single Version) Chicago Obviously my favorite song by Chicago. The exchange of leads with Terry Kath and Peter Cetera is great. But Robert Lamm wrote the song. Try to find the single version as I think that edit is superior. Do Ya Electric Light Orchestra Saw them do this in concert in Ft. Wayne Indiana so many years ago. Loved it then, still love it now, especially when played very loudly. Elusive Butterfly Bob Lind Bob Linds Greatest Hits on one side of a 45RPM record. The song is another classic I like to sing along with. Every Little Kiss (Instumental Version) Bruce Hornsby & The Range This will be hard to find. The vocal version of this song is good, the instrumental is better. I ran across this on a CD-Single from 20-Century Sound when I lived in Pennslyvania. Fall on Me R.E.M. One of the first R.E.M. song where the lyrics were understandable. I love the counter melody. The music video is good too. Father and Son Cat Stevens I love how he uses two vocal registers to sing the roles in this one-artist duet. There is also a music video, they called them promotional videos way back then, of this song that is worth watching if you can find it. Heaven and Hell Michael Stanley Band My brother Wilber turned me on to this band from Cleveland. Mr. Stanley still records and I still buy everything he records on-sight. This a a love song of a troubled relationship. It too is better when played loundly with windows down. I am a Rock Simon & Garfunkel I heard this song first from the Juke Box at Bill & Joes, a diner in Elida back when students could leave school grounds for lunch. Once that rule was recinded, the diner had to close. To me this song is a classic. I like to sing Arts part and got pretty good at it at one point... I Wont Last a Day Without You Paul Williams What a great love song. I think Paul Williams performs his songs better than anyone, even the late Karen Carpenter. But The Carpenters made a boatload of money for him in the 1970s. If You Could Read My Mind Gordon Lightfoot I bought this 45RPM record when it was new. I own the album on CD too. This is a great song that I like singing with Ce. She does a great job on the harmony vocal line. Imagine John Lennon What can be said about the greatest John Lennon song of all time. Surely his most recognized work. I great anthem to peace. In the Real World The Alan Parsons Project Eric Wolfson sings this song and many of my Alan Parsons favorites. It is hard to find a bad song with that combination. Jesus Was a Crossmaker The Hollies This is my favorite song on one of my favortie albums of all time. It will be hard to find. The album is Romany and is worth the search. This is the first Hollies album after Alan Clarke left the band. The lead singer could hardly speak English. Jump Into the Fire Harry Nilsson Another strong bass line, especially in the de-tuning part of the solo. From Knilsson Schmilsson album. Just Like Romeo and Juliet The Reflections I spent a couple hours with this group in the Denver airport one Sunday. We were on the same flight to Detroit. This is a group of great gentlemen with lots of Rock n Roll sotries to tell. I actually like both versions of this song (they gave me a CD with the song re-recorded and extended) but I think the original is from 1966. Knee Deep in Love Klaatu This band from Canada was once thought to be The Beatles recording secretly. Turned out they were a band of Toronto area musician friends. Let Me Be The Turtles I believe this is a P.F. Sloan composition. In any case, it is a great song performed perfectly by The Turtles. It is a real teenage statement song. The Turtles recorded many of Mr. Sloans songs in their earlier days. Look to Your Soul Johnny Rivers By far my favorite Johnny Rivers song. It is a song about setting your path along the right direction when things get tough. If you like this song, try Johnnys Tunesmith too. Michelles Song Elton John This is a song from the Friends Soundtrack. It is a wonderful love song and I have had it as a favorite almost from the first listen way back in my high-school after pulling the LP from a cut-out bin at Camelot Music. Mismatch Harry Chapin Sally and I saw Harry Chapin in concert way back when. He did not do this song then, but he did others from his Dance Band on the Titanic album. I like those songs so I waited (a long time) for the album and found this song as a hidden treasure. Morningside Neil Diamond This was a little-heard single that I always loved. It is a ballad, a story-song, that tells a sad tale. Names, Tag, Numbers and Labels Albert Hammond I always thought this song would be a hit if only The Oak Ridge Boys would record it. Mr. Hammond released this song on two LPs. The long version, this version, is on the earlier It Never Rains in Southern California album. Oh No Comodores My favorite Lionel Richie song. This is from his days as a singer with The Comodores. Prisoners John Denver From the Rocky Mountain High LP. I bought this LP while I was reading 30 Seconds Over Tokyo. Forever I cannot separate the two, but this song is about the Vietnam War and POWs, not World War 2. Rhymes and Reasons John Denver This is the earliest John Denver song that I recongized as a single. He re-recroded it on his Greatest Hits album. That version is the one I have in this playlist. I saw him do this live in a concert but I do not remember the venue. I do remember it was a concert in the round. Something in the Air Thunderclap Newman This is from the Magic Christian movie soundtrack. I used to play this song when I wanted to demonstrate the bass performance of a set of speakers. Southern Cross Crosby, Stills & Nash I have seen this song performed live too. The accoustic guitar is probaly why I like the song, after the lyrics of course! Still Within the Sound of My Voice Glen Campbell One of Mr. Campbells songs from his days recording with Dennis Lambert and Brian Potter as producers. I think that period was just below his Jimmy Webb days as far as quality material is concerned. Swear Your Love Kenny Loggins This song needs to be played very loudly, preferably in a nice car with the windows down and you lover sitting next to you. It might work better when 20-something as opposed to 50-something. The Flower Lady Peter & Gordon This is a story song that touched my heart the first time I heard in in my old bedroom in Elida so many years ago. It was on the Peter & Gordon Knight in Rusty Armour LP I picked up from a cutout bin. The Pied Piper Crispian St. Peters Another classic song from the 1960s. I had a 45RPM copy of this that my little brothers painted and ruined. It took me decards to replace it with a digital version. Crispian St. Peters CD showed up on one of my Amazon searches and I ordered it on the spot! The Rain, the Park, and Other Things Cowsills This band was the inspiration for The Partridge Family TV show. I always liked this song and In Need of a Friend but I like this song more. It was the bigger hit too. The Salt in My Tears Martin Briley This might be the best put-down song of all time. I liked the music video of this too from the MTV Days of yore… We Just Disagree Dave Mason A classic song from one of Rock Musics classic artists. It is also a good sing-along song. What is Life? George Harrison From Georges All Things Must Pass LP from 1970. This song sounds better played loudly. It is a great love song and can be interpreted spiritually as can many of Mr. Harrisons songs. When You Walk in the Room Paul Carrack I know this is not the original, Dusty Springfield did the original, but I like this version better. I love to sing along with this version. It is (to me) full of emotion. As a wallflower at school dances, I somehow sympathized with the lyrics of this. Winning Santana This was my favorite song of his Zbop LP. Of course he doesnt sing the song, but it is a great tune none the less. Yesterday The Beatles Sir Paul McCartneys best composition in my opinion. I liked it when it was new and still like it a lot!
