OK. Long Post. Poetry Concert and Slam May 17th. SLAM RULES 1. 15 places are available on the night for the Poetry Slam If the number of entrants exceeds 15, then performance places shall be selected by numbered ticket draw 2. Entries for the Poetry Slam are available on the night only. 3. Entrants will need to purchase a ticket to the event to be able to enter the Town Hall and the Slam. Tickets for the event are available from Paperbark Merchants in York Street and online at paperbarks.au Tickets for the event are numbered allocated seating. It is strongly advised that entrants pre purchase a ticket prior to the event. Should the event sell out, door sales on the night will be unavailable and the entrant will then be unable to enter the theatre or the Slam on the night 4. Entry forms for the Slam will be located in the upstairs foyer. Entrants will need to complete the entry form and provide their name and contact phone number to enter 5. Entrants must perform their own original unpublished works only. Entrants performing a work that is not their own original work will be disqualified 6. Entrants are reminded that their performance will be in a public venue. Inappropriate or unnecessary expletives or obscenities are discouraged. 7. Entrants shall retain the individual copyright of the work performed. Should publication of the performed work be awarded as a part of a prize, the entrant will need to determine copyright of the work with the publisher 8. Entrants will perform one poem only 9. Performances are scored as follows: Two minutes are allowed for the poem performance Five points are deducted for every 15 seconds overtime Five scores are given by the judges. The highest and the lowest scores are discarded and the final score is the total of the three remaining scores. Judges will score out of 10 points. Total score cannot exceed 30 points 10. Judges are selected by random draw on the night. If you wish to become a judge you will need to take a numbered ticket on the night – also available in the upstairs foyer. Judges will remain in the audience and display their score by holding up the score so that it can be seen from the stage Adding up of scores will be done from the stage 11. Entrants will be required to perform on the stage and a microphone on stand will be provided. A lectern will also be available. Entrants can perform from memory or can read from their written work 12. Should an entrant be physically unable to climb the steps onto the stage, then a microphone will be provided for them to perform their piece on the floor in front of the stage 13. Have fun.
