ON THIS DAY IN MUSIC HISTORY: September 15th 1984; Relax (Dont Do It), by Frankie Goes to Hollywood, became the longest-running chart hit in 17 years in the UK after spending 48 weeks then reappearing for 4 more weeks, making 52 weeks on the UK Singles Hot 100 chart. This song, from their debut album Welcome To The Pleasuredome, was their first single. It peaked at No10 and was their only hit in the US. It was their first of 3 No1s in the UK followed by Two Tribes and The Power Of Love. To throw off the BBC censors, the group publicly stated that the song was written about motivation, though they later admitted it was about shagging. So sit back, have a smoke and Relax (Dont Do It).....Enjoy!
