ON THIS DAY IN MUSIC HISTORY: September 7th 2003; Warren Zevon lost his year and a half long battle with cancer in Los Angeles, California at age 56. The singer, songwriter, musician was known for writing songs that had a dark humor to them. Best showcased on his classic 1978 album Excitable Boy, with such tunes as the title track, Werewolves In London, Lawyers, Guns and Money, Roland The Headless Thompson Gunner and Johnny Strikes Up The Band. He received 5 posthumous Grammy nominations, winning 2, for his final album, The Wind, released two weeks before he died. For his final public performance he played Roland The Headless Thompson Gunner on David Letterman, a long time friend and supporter of Zevons. Heres that performance.....Enjoy!
