ONE AND DONE. Or as UK fans are now chanting WON AND DONE. What an absolute tragedy. The fact that fans, let alone NCAA is allowing such a mockery of collegiate athletics continue is outrageous. Coach Cal being the only coach in NCAA history to have trips to the final four vacated at different schools; UMass and Memphis not exactly something Id be proud of. ONE HAS TO wonder if and when something will come about his runs to the final four with Kentucky including this year. Cal operates within a seriously flawed system that makes a mockery at supposed “institutions of higher learning.” Seeing the inside of a classroom only enough to stay eligble is what Kentucky basketball is all about. As soon as the buzzer sounds ending the NCAA title game, there is no incentive to attend class again. The “One and Dones” have what they came to “school” for…an NBA apprenticeship and, possibly a championship ring. I cannot blame the kids for doing what they think is best for their families but is sticking around long enough to declare a major, to know where the library is too much to ask for? We used to take that for granted, now its noteworthy. The thought of my hypothetical basketball superstar child getting a visit from such a slime ball makes me physically ill. Cal embodies everything that is wrong with college basketball. Imagine him walking into a recruit’s living room attempting to sell this basketball program like a traveling salesman. Where is the integrity? Exploiting the one and done rule and completely ruining what used to be known as a “student-athlete”. Yet, tomorrow night the cats will be cutting down the nets. They represent neither the past nor future of college basketball. Just everything that’s wrong with exploitation of NBA & NCAA rules and rewards for working the system. So congratulations to the UK players. I don’t want to congratulate UK as a school, UKs coach, or UK fans.
