ONLY IN AMERICA. EX-VIRGINIA GOVERNOR GETS 2 YEARS IN PRISON FOR CORRUPTION. Bob McDonnell, the former Republican governor of Virginia, was sentenced to two years in prison by a federal judge Tuesday after being convicted last year on multiple corruption charges. McDonnell was charged with trading favors for $177,000 worth of loans, vacations, and other personal gifts from a family friend looking to promote his vitamin-supplement business. McDonnell’s wife, Maureen, was also convicted on corruption charges and will be sentenced Feb. 20. Prosecutors sought a minimum of 10 years behind bars for McDonnell, who was once considered to be a potential vice-presidential candidate for the GOP.
