ONLY THE TRUTH CAN HEAL THE WOUNDS OF NIGERIA By Comrade Princewill Onyekachi The Young supporters of Buhari should dig deep into our history and unravel why we (Nigerians) are still where we are today. Nigeria, especially democratic governance would have developed beyond how it is now if Buhari had not toppled the Alhaji Shehu Usman Aliyu Shagari-led government, God wont allow these retrogressive elements to destroy Nigeria the way they did on December 31, 1983. It is on record that the Alhaji Shehu Shagaris government started the Ajaokuta Steel Rolling Mill and was almost completing it before Buhari led others to overthrow the government. The dream of Ajaokuta was killed by that military coup led by Buhari, and all efforts to revive it by the Jonathan-led government have been impeded by unresolved court actions. In Lagos State, the Alhaji Lateef Jakandes government had commenced the Metro Line Transportation System, but what did the Buhari-led military government do? It truncated the project and went on to pay $78 million compensation to the contractor at the expense of Lagos tax payers. Before the 1983 military coup, the Jakandes Lagos state government only needed the Federal Government to guarantee a N100 million loan and the Shagari-led government was ready to do it, but Buhari, in his shallow mindedness cancelled the laudable project and paid $78 million compensation to the contractor. It has therefore become necessary for Nigerians to be mindful of these elements, bearing in mind that it was exactly 30 years ago that their leader, Buhari destroyed democratic governance in Nigeria and truncated the developments that were going on then. We (Nigerians) must not allow Buhari and co to draw us back now for their own selfish gains, and I am sure God wont let them. Only the truth can heal the wounds of Nigeria. Alhaji Shehu Shagari is still alive, and can be approached to confirm the monumental setback General Buhari and his junta unleashed on Nigeria. I can go on and on. The truth is constant and can always be verified. If you were young or unborn then, ask your parents the scale of developmens going on before the Military Coup of 1983. General Buhari truncated political, economic and industrial development in Nigeria in 1983. Buhari should not be crying, we (Nigerians) should be the ones crying. Buhari is not the Saviour of our Democracy, he actually destroyed our democracy on the 31st of December 1983. These are historical facts, and I challenge anyone to refute these. The least Buhari can do is to express regrets and apologize to Nigerians for violently overthrowing a democratically elected government of Nigeria. If he doesnt, it means he has no business with Democracy. One cannot give what he doesnt have. God bless Nigeria...
