OPEN CINEMA Raindance Canada - I am posting from the lobby of the Carlton: The overarching question posed in The Ghosts in Our Machine is: are animals property to be owned and used, or are they sentient beings deserving of rights? In the opening and closing sequences of the film, hyperrealistic slow-motion footage of various animal species invite viewers into the visceral, sensory presence of horses, cows, sheep, cats, dogs, pigs, primates, a guinea pig and a dolphin. Through the transformative power of cinema we can touch smell and encounter these fellow beings as liberated from the shackles we impose on them. - Liz Marshall
