OPEN LETTER TO ASD BOARD Dear Board Members, I have always encouraged those of you with college degrees to sign up to sub in the ASD. It is a true insight. Unfortunately this year there has been a policy change that you may or may not be aware of. You as college educated folk, can no longer sub in the ASD with just a college degree. You are now required to have an Alaska teaching certificate as well. Excluded by this new policy are wives and husbands of military who are in Alaska with degrees from other states, teachers from other states here trying to find out if they want to move here. This change excludes Doctors, Lawyers, Engineer, Nurses and professionals who can no longer offer their services as substitutes. This is both a new requirement and unique to Anchorage. Fairbanks offers two levels of sub pay, one for those with teacher certificates (not just Alaska) and one for those who do not. Mat Su no such requirement Kenai no such requirement I am astounded that this policy change was not open to public comment. I hope the board will address this ASAP It has the potential to be a real nightmare, please explain your reasoning.
