Guests may choose to tour the south side of the property, the north side or both. BACKGROUND Friends of Crowell Hilaka has launched a campaign to buy Crowell Hilaka (for sale through WRLC) and is seeking partners and donors to facilitate the purchase and transformation of the property to benefit the Northeast Ohio community. WRLC considers FoCH a viable option to preserve from development the 336-acre property, but FoCH is facing a fast-approaching deadline to secure pledges and funding commitments for this purchase. The property has important historic and environmental value: as the former estate of inventor Jim Kirby, it has historic buildings (including a dance hall floor built on railroad car springs), two lakes, many streams and an abundant variety of plants and wildlife. The goals for the future of Crowell/Hilaka include: *Preserve Crowell/Hilaka as an important local heritage site; *Use the historic structures and inventions on the property to teach science and engineering programs; *Hold community events and teach arts and educational programming in the historic building; *Promote outdoor recreation by improving and using current facilities; and *Promote love of nature through family camping and outdoor skills programs.
