October 23 - a modest crowd about but were in for a good show! Tonights leader Margie Russell, kicks into gear early with some strong tunes to open proceedings. Elise follows with a really fine selection before handing over to Josh. Josh told us that hes busking his way up to Queensland. His style is in your face, heavily percussive and demanding of attention. Some of us thought it likely that Andy James would score a sale once Joshd caved in the top the top of his guitar, but no - it survived. Stalwart Lizzie had a go with sister Margie, supporting with vocal and guitar. The girls have much to offer whether as singles or duet and are always a treat. Michael Mac has been MIA for a while but was as enthusiastic as ever tonight. He presented a selection of own compositions on, maybe the sweetest sounding 12-string around. Graeme and I added some colour (not to say interference) and the audience seemed OK with it. Visiting from the southern suburbs, old friend Colin (below) was in fine voice. What with the time since he was last here many have forgotten past visits and he was left quite unmolested. Shame! Ive got a soft spot for Alice. Still, he was relieved. An abbreviated The Mob (with inserts) was next. Garry led and his wholly ill-equipped supporters fluffed about a bit. I reckon with Gazzzs guidance we could make something of this. But . . . Some hasty plotting in the wings earned Jac a spot. So with a tentative play list and little preparation, she joined us, leading away with a rocking selection of Stones and others. We were a bit smug with some of it too. Fresh from recent successes in Goolwa and environs, Beaus was a most welcome return. His focus was mainly Dylan but a surprise Black Keys Lonely Boy got everyones attention. Long overdue Beau. Mal saddled up with his usual entourage but also with recent inclusion, Stuie from Strath. Stu drums, but counts with his shoes off! Whoda thought that. I do suspect that hes so keen that his governor doesnt tho. Another recent variation in Mals lineup saw Graeme caressing keys while Dan took on bass. Must say - a winning combination with material like The Letter. Great job guys. All in all, heading towards close, Garry throws in a few more with the boys and Margie assisting then retreats to allow Margie to bring it home. Lotsa dancing, terrific music, great company - Ill be back. See ya next week.
