October 8, 2013 Why should we pursue God? I am sure there are many circumstances when we may feel that we want to or need to pursue God. But I want to suggest three reasons why we should Pursue God. The 1st one that I want to suggest is because He is the only One who can truly Help Me or you. We must realize that it does not matter what the philosophy of the world may say, God is the only one who can help us. That is most certainly true when we talk about the spiritual effects of sin upon our lives. We all need a Savior, that is One who can forgive us of our sin and change us and our destiny. Who else but God can forgive and deal with the issue of sin in our lives? I love reading about the man in Mark chapter two who was a paralytic. He had some sort of physical disease or something that happened in his life so he was wasn’t able to walk. He had to be carried around on a makeshift bed by others to get from place to place. He had to depend upon someone else and did not have the ability to walk or run or jump like we do, but he did have some friends who cared for him as we see when we read Mark 2. Yet, when the man and their friends pursue God for the need of this man and when God did a work in his life things change for him and his friends. Before the passage is over the man who’d been carried is walking, leaping and praising God. The passage revels that Jesus was in a house teaching and four men come carrying their friend on some sort of pallet. They were concerned for their friend and felt that only Jesus could help their friend. They were willing to overcome all obstacles or do whatever it took to get their friend to Jesus. They had to tear the roof off of the house and lower their friend down to Jesus. What he does and says is amazing and why we should pursue God. He tells the man that his sins were forgiven and to take up his bed and walk. The religious leaders of the day, questioned Him and asked, who can forgive sin but God? So, they tell us why we should pursue God, because only He can forgive our sin and heal us from the malady of sin. We should all know that We Need God in our lives. It goes without saying that if you are unsaved or unsure about where you are going to spend your eternity, you need God. But, even or especially as a believer we should know how much we need God. We are absolutely dependent upon Him for all things in our lives. Jesus tells us this in John 15:4-5, “Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can you, except you abide in Me. 5 I am the vine, you are the branches: He that abides in Me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit: for without Me you can do nothing.” Why would we want to try to get through a single day without God? We’re His and all the things that happen in our lives have a divine purpose so we need Him. He is our PROVISION, He is our PROTECTION, He is our POWER and He should be our PURPOSE or reason for living. We should pursue God Because we Want to KNOW God. Do you want to know Him, and have a relationship with Him? How much do you want to know Him? What price will you pay? We must understand as a Christian, we have entered into a relationship with Him. We should want to know more fully, the God who loves us and gave His Son for us. How well do you know Him? How much time are you investing in getting to know Him? When, we have a personal relationship with someone, i.e: GOD, there should be a desire on our part to have an intimate relationship with Him. We should want to be at ONE with Him, which will require that we watch our walk, watch our ways and watch our will that it might all be in line with Him. How is your life and what are you pursuing?
