Officers investigating a robbery which happened yesterday, at Lloyds TSB in Stanley, have this morning arrested a man on suspicion of robbery. The 22 year old man from New Kyo near to Stanley was arrested in an early morning raid at an address in Gateshead. He is currently in custody at Durham city police station where he is being questioned by detectives. Officers were called to the bank on Front Street in Stanley just before 2pm yesterday following reports of a robbery in which the suspect claimed to be in possession of a firearm. A substantial amount of money was taken. The man leading the investigation Acting Detective Chief Inspector Gavin Heckles said “I would like to thank each and every person who came forward with information to assist this enquiry following our appeal last night. We have been overwhelmed with information and are appreciative of the support.”
