Ok - now that Ive recovered from the minor kitchen fire in our home.....and thanks to my wonderful son Aamir Horton for his quick thinking and proper usage of the fire extinguisher to put out the minor oven fire...all is good! My son was in the kitchen preparing to bake an apple pie that he learned to make from his cooking class when the oven which was pre-heating caught fire. Question....ever use a fire extinguisher? My son used that thing like he was a pro! Grabbed and reached for it way before I had a time to react. So proud of him! However, the after effects.....oh my. Fire extinguisher powder everywhere. Took us hours to clean up and still have to touch up a few spots. But do you think I care? Nope.....happy it was only a small fire. No lives lost which is what is most important, right? LISTEN EVERYONE......if you dont have a fire extinguisher in your kitchen, please make sure you have one within reach. And make sure your children know how to use it. My son grabbed that fire extinguisher, pulled the plug on it and put out the fire before I even had a time to react. While I was dialing 911, he was pointing and shooting and had put the fire out. And the other thing he did.....he saw that the smoke was causing me to cough (asthma) and he yelled at me...Mom get out...carbon dioxide. What? What? NO you get out....[tears] Love him to pieces....LOVE HIM!!!!! If I had the money......like T.I. said in his song....you can have whatever you like! Our local police/fire department responded within minutes. They used what happened to us today as an opportunity to remind people to never use appliances while away. He said people turn on their washer and dryers and then leave to run errands and they should never do that. They had just put out a fire a few days ago from a house where the dryer caught fire but had the homeowner been home, maybe they could have reacted and then called 911 and they could have saved the house but because no one was home, the house burned down to the ground.
