Ok. So this is how I spent my planned calm, stress free uneventful day yesterday. Not! Missing Bob the rescue highway foal. Out looking for him. Out to the 630 hectare picnic block where all the horses are including Susie the rescue Hopevale mare who is mum to 2 yr old Blotch. Susie is due to have another foal and was bushed against my desire just before i went to NZ to keep Bob the foal from annoying her and getting seriously kicked when doing it. She was to be brought back to have the foal at Hidden Valley. Today actually. So we find a new foal born that night. But its Shelia that is suckling it and keeping Susie away from it. But Shelia is dry. Shelia puts up a huge fight to keep us and Susie away from her baby! Finally get Shelia In hand. Walked her back to stables with Susie following but no foal. Found wee Bob on the way...Moritz brings a weak foal in the Suzuki. I had to whisk Shelia away by horse float to settle the real mum and baby. Hopefully to re bond. Dumped Shelia at the racecourse stables to scream back to my stables. Susie wont allow baby anywhere near her. She has rejected the foal. She still thinks its Shelias and not hers. We still had bobs milk powder and Moritz has done a fab job of getting her to drink it. This morning with no other horses at stables to distract her (apart from wee Bob) we have locked them in stable together. Not going well. Hoping for a miracle and some mother instinct to kick in and fall in love with her gorgeous wee filly baby all over again.. I still cant believe what a bloody shame it all is. I would not have known in time if it hadnt been looking for wee Bob..but then if a bob wasnt here it wouldnt have happened as Susie would still be at the stables where she successfully foaled Blotch. And no I cant touch or put a hand on Susie. She is still a wild Hopevale horse to handle.
