Ok folks! Below is the first and only spoiler for my book Contrasting Dark and Night. If anyone tries to copy or steal ideas or characters portrayed in this work, we are going to have a serious problem! Well here ya go! I slowly approached the mill. Today I had a flashlight to keep me company. This time I was careful to prop the door open with a large, orange, brick. I quietly sulked inside. Once in, I patted the outside of my coat. Yep, my loaded 44 Glock was safe inside. It was a good thing I had served my mandatory 2 years in the I.D.F. Unlike most people, I knew how to properly use it and hide any “Remnants”. I almost felt safe. Almost. My skin tingled as I silently pierced the veil of darkness. My teeth clacked against each other with bitter remorse. Tears welled in my eyes and threatened to spill over onto my cheeks. I was alone as the door monotonously slammed shut behind me. Alone in the dark. My name is Elizabeth Judea. I’m 24 years old. I was a high ranking member in the I.D.F. And I’m scared of the dark. I crept slowly along the wall hugging my arms around my chest, keeping the cold out…-and my heart in. I try my flashlight. Dead. Next I try my cell phone. Dead. “Who’s doing this to me?!” I scream out in a sudden burst of rage. “What do you want?!” “Don’t be afraid. I don’t want you to be afraid of me.” A shiver crawled down along my spine. “Show yourself then!” Lights flickered on around me. Lights if they could hardly be called that. More like electric power zapping candles. A figure stands in front of me. A dark figure with just enough shape to give it a human feeling, and just enough shadow and deformity to send your head reeling. The only distinguishable facial feature (the thing-whatever it was-was wearing a hood) was a pair of icy silver eyes. Unblinking eyes. The figure then removed its hood revealing blonde hair, silver eyes, pale skin and freckles. I choked down a gasp. He looked so innocent. He couldn’t have been older than fifteen or sixteen. “I’m sorry if I frightened you.” He spoke in a soft whisper as if the silence around us was pressing on him. “Who are you?” I asked cautiously trying to keep my cool. “My name is Foster Oliver.” “That’s a very old fashioned name Foster. My name is Elizabeth Judea. What did you bring me here for?” He gave me a very small cynical smile that made me pull my coat closer over my shoulders. “I need what you can help me get.” “And why would I do that?” “Because I know who you really are.” I cocked my head to one side. “Oh?” “I’ve know everyone in your family since 1369.” “Am I hearing you right, or are you just a whole other kind of crazy?” He smirked. It was a look that would send a serial killer home crying. “I need your help to get my family back.” “And how do you expect me to do that? You’re the one that seems to have the most experience in being immortal and omniscient.” He snarled his lip in a cruel glare. “How dare you. Maybe I should just force you, if you want to be so smart.” I took a step back and pulled out my gun. “Try me.” I said between clenched teeth. He put his hands up and my Glock flew from grasp. “Fine! How do you expect me to find them?!” “Meet me tonight outside Colonial cemetery. Tell no one where you’re going.”
