Okay so heres the essay that wrote. I have to present Monday. What yal think? Its called I AM FROM I AM FROM, A race: in which we fight against one another, rather than with each other. Instead of being judged by the content of our character we are demoted by the content of our skin. Still, till this day it seems like African Americans always have something to prove. No matter how hard we try to strive for excellence it never seems to be comparable with the other races. It is not easy being an African American walking into a facility that has a higher rate of Caucasians. Some of the people look at you with such disgust. They see the color of your skin and automatically be-little you because in some of their eyes, you’re considered different. Well they are right. I am different. Different because I am able to accept people the way they are. No matter the race, not matter the age, no matter what you look like. Simply accepting you, for you. I AM FROM, A church: in which we are all one huge family. A church that doesn’t just show love and support inside the lord’s house, but outside as well. We wake up every Sunday morning in our fanciest clothing. Our bible in one hand and purses in the other. We walk into a room that is filled with high spirit and laughter. The choir begins to sing. The congregation begins to rise. The spirits starts to manifest. It is time. It is time for Pastor Williams to prey over the offering. Eyes are closed and heads are bowed. He begins: “Thank you lord for these seeds, which you have given me to plant. I believe that these seeds that I am planting are being planted on good grounds. As a result of my faith, watering these seeds, I believe that an abundant harvest will be my residual. And I may have more seeds to plant. And I may have to give to the poor. And I may have to provide for my family. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.” I AM FROM, A family: in which we speak bluntly. We speak in such a manner, not because we are mean but because we feel as if you have something to say… just say it. Honesty is always the best policy. I am from a gentle family where we support one another. If you need anything let me know and I’ll be there. I am from a family that eats fried chicken about three nights a week but won’t dare touch a salad. A family that comes home and talks about how their day went. A family who believes that laughter is the best medicine. I am from a family who loves one another despite our differences. A family who thinks that blood doesn’t make you family. Love does. Yeah…. That’s where I’m from.
