Okay, so this article has appeared in my feed today several times and its really unacceptable. So Im going on one FINAL rant on this subject because this is the most insulting thing I have ever read. First and foremost, complaining that only 27% of donations is making it toward research for ALS is ABSURD. 27% of $100 million is an AMAZING number on its own. I see no problem yet. Of the remaining 73% thats not being dedicated to research, 32% is being placed toward community education about ALS.. Which is totally necessary because its not a very widely known disease, and educating the public is the first step toward finding a cure. 19% is put toward patient and community services.. THE FOUNDATION IS ASSISTING PEOPLE SUFFERING FROM THIS DISEASE FINANCIALLY WHILE THEY ARE TREATED. Still not seeing a problem here. Finally, 14% is dedicated to future fundraising initiatives. Saying this is unnecessary is like telling someone who just won millions of dollars that they should blow it all on ONE THING.. Never invest in the future and try to make yourself more money from the money youve been lucky enough to have now. Are you all serious? STILL NO PROBLEM. Of all the money the foundation takes in, 7% of it gets distributed among its administration. SEVEN PERCENT. While 7% of hundreds of millions of dollars IS a pretty high amount, we have no insight as to when this budget was installed. They could have been distributing money this way for years while bringing in a tiny fraction of the donations theyve received from the ice bucket challenge.. We have no idea if adjustments to this number would be made, or even if it is totally necessary. And even so, while you can sit back and complain that only 27% of the funds raised make it to research, 66% of the remaining funds get pumped back out into COMMUNITY initiatives. Assisting patients, educating the public, and investing toward putting together more successful fundraisers for the future. Saying The ALS Foundation is a terrible organization to send your money. Is WRONG on so many levels. To deem any charitable organization as a waste of your money makes you an absolutely horrible person. And as a member of a family who has been lucky enough to be assisted on multiple occasions by a charitable organization to help cut medical costs for medicating a debilitating disease, I stand firmly behind the idea that it is SMART to distribute the money the way they do. And it is incredibly OFFENSIVE to believe otherwise. I CANT BELIEVE PEOPLE ARE STILL TALKING NEGATIVELY ABOUT THIS STUFF. PULL YOUR HEADS OUT OF YOUR ASSES.
