Old Music, Young Talent” Violinist Jeremy Rhizor, a graduate of Julliard’s Master of Historical Performance Program is visiting Nova Scotia to do a tour of free concerts to raise support for one of Nova Scotia’s newest and most innovative charities, Youth Art Connection (YAC). Jeremy Rhizor will be accompanied in concert by Nova Scotian organist Hendrick Nicolas Veltmeyer, protégé of Paul and Nick Halley at the University of King’s College. The concerts will be under an hour in length and feature works by Telemann, Bach, Leclair and Tchaicovsky. Mon., Sept. 8th, 7pm – St. Johns Anglican Church, Port Williams Thurs., Sept. 11th, 7pm - King’s College Chapel, Halifax Fri., Sept. 12th, 7pm - Christ Church, Windsor Sat., Sept. 13th, 4pm – St. Andrew and St. George United Church, Annapolis Royal Mon., Sept. 15th, 2pm – St. John’s Anglican Church, Truro Mon., Sept. 15th, 7pm – St. James’ Anglican Church, Pictou Jeremy and Hendrick met in 2012 while studying at the Tafelmusik Baroque Institute in Toronto. In the spring of 2014 Hendrick attended an intimate concert of Jeremys at the Metropolitan Museum of Art with the Julliard 415 ensemble and Maestro William Christie, and was inspired to bring similar intimate and exciting early music concerts to Nova Scotia. Youth Art Connection is a charitable organization cofounded by Ann Denny and Ryan Veltmeyer in 2012 that supports community leadership in young people by nurturing their passions, helping build their creative skills, and connecting them with professional artists, performers, industry professionals and the business community. Jeremy Rhizor is known for his compelling ensemble leadership and for his thoughtful and passionate playing of the violin. The New York Times commended him for “fiddling virtuosically but with fluid grace”. In cooperation with Yale University’s Institute of Sacred Music, Jeremy and the Juilliard415 toured extensively in Italy, Japan, Singapore, and Burma under the direction of Masaaki Suzuki. H founded the Academy of Sacred Drama, and a conductorless collaborative orchestra at the Eastman School of Music.
