On 08/02/14 at 11:00pm Deputies responded to a traffic incident on E/B I94 near STH 20. A Racine County Sheriff’s Deputy arrived and found a vehicle with significant damage to the passenger side of the vehicle and a flat tire. The Deputy investigated and arrested the female driver of this vehicle for OWI 1st offense. During this arrest the deputy’s squad car was struck by another vehicle traveling S/B on I94. That vehicle was stopped a short time later by State Patrol which resulted in the operator of that vehicle found to be intoxicated and arrested for OWI. Thankfully, no one was injured as a result of these incidents. Sheriff Schmaling would like to remind people to find a designated driver to ensure everyone gets home safely if they plan on drinking. He also wants people to be mindful of the importance of the “Move Over Law,” The law requires drivers to shift lanes or slow down in order to provide a safety zone for a squad car, ambulance, fire truck, tow truck or highway maintenance vehicle that is stopped on the side of a road with its warning lights flashing.
