On 09/18/14 at 16:16 hours the Mt. Pleasant Police Department received a call for a possible heroin overdose in the 2100 block of Riviera Drive. Initial information indicated that a 25 year old male at the residence was unconscious with labored breathing. Racine County Sheriff’s Deputies were advised of the rescue call and immediately responded to the residence. Deputies responded realizing that the Sheriff’s Office is uniquely equipped to handle opiate related overdoses. Earlier this year Racine Sheriff’s Deputies were equipped and trained in the use of naloxone, an opiate antagonist designed to counter the effects of opiate related overdoses. Upon arrival, Deputies immediately assessed the situation and administered naloxone in accordance with their training. The naloxone almost immediately had the desired effect, allowing Emergency Medical Services to stabilize and transport the patient.
