On 4th December 1957, an horrific accident involving a steam train and an electric train occurred just outside St. Johns station in Lewisham, South London. Ninety people were killed and over 100 were injured when the two trains collided in thick fog, also damaging part of a railway bridge, bringing it crashing down onto carriages full of passengers. It is said that the screams and cries of those who were trapped and died can still be heard on the anniversary of the accident.
